Dumping Out Our Purses: Letting Go, Healing, and Trusting God

Ladies, have you ever had to dump out your purse just to find your keys? You dig through everything—old receipts, gum wrappers, a dozen chapsticks—pulling out everything except the thing you actually need.

Life works the same way.

We carry so much—stress, responsibilities, past hurts, and worries. We hold onto things we think we might need—like the fear of getting hurt again, the weight of past mistakes, or the pressure to have everything figured out. But over time, our hearts, like our purses, get so cluttered that we struggle to find peace, joy, or even God in the mess.

And here’s the hard truth: if we don’t deal with what we’re carrying, we’ll bring it into every relationship, every situation, and every season of life. Unhealed hurt turns into anxiety. Stress turns into frustration. Fear keeps us stuck.

That’s why we need to dump it all out before God.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

God doesn’t expect us to carry everything on our own. In fact, He wants us to give it to Him. He doesn’t just want to see our mess—He wants to help us sort through it. To heal what’s broken, remove what’s weighing us down, and remind us that He is our source of peace, not the things we try to hold onto for security.

If we don’t take the time to heal and trust God with our burdens, we’ll keep carrying the same struggles from place to place, hoping the next relationship, job, or season of life will fix things. But healing doesn’t come from stuffing things deeper into our bag—it comes from laying it all out before God and letting Him do the work in us.

So maybe today is the day for a “purse dump” moment with God. Empty it all out—every hurt, every worry, every fear. Let Him take what you don’t need, heal what’s broken, and remind you that He is the only thing you truly need to carry.
